GROUP OUTINGS & CLINICS

Outing Group
The ladies from Jay Alix, Inc.

Housatonic Anglers has hosted small family groups of four people to large corporate outings for as many as 36 participants. We will help define your objective for the group, whether it is to learn all the subtle nuances of fly-fishing, or to simply go out and try to catch a few fish on a fly. Some clinics have been done over the course of three days and others have taken the form of a two-hour casting seminar. We can make it as formal or informal as you like. By hiring other local guides, you can rest assured that everyone would have quality instruction and the hands on experience to have a fun day on the water. We will also help you with other activities such as horseback riding, hiking, biking and canoeing to assure that all members of the group have something to do that they enjoy.

SCHOOLS
What you will learn

Casting Instruction
Casting instruction on the lawn.

This program is for the beginner and we limit our class size to 4 students per instructor. You will get a great deal of individual attention and what makes this school better than others is that each student will have over 4 hours of guided fishing, putting your new found skills to the test in actual fishing situations. You will learn all the basics and after you have attended our program you will be able to cast and catch trout and bass with a fly.

Here are some of the things you will learn:

  • How to cast a fly rod including the roll cast.

  • How to "read" the water to help you locate fish.

  • How to tie knots and how to select the proper fly and tippet.

  • How to fish and present nymphs, streamers, & dry flies.

  • Wading safety, and on stream etiquette.

  • Appropriate equipment selection & approximate cost.

  • How to catch trout in actual fishing situations, not in a stocked pond.

Students are encouraged to bring their own rods and waders but if this is not possible a rod will be provided. Waders can be rented for an additional charge of $15 per day
